Season of mists…

Autumn pumpkins seasonal inspiration

It’s a new season. And no question of it, the days are getting shorter and, even when the sun’s out, it’s just a little chilly. So autumn it is…

But, with a new season comes new produce and new inspiration. This week’s seen the last of the English strawberries (a whole batch rejected, sadly), and we’ve probably seen the last of the peaches and nectarines. But as we bid farewell to our summer favourites, there’s plenty available at FINK – and other independent shops – to tempt the tastebuds. And as the evenings draw in don’t we all err towards mellow and comforting instead of  those zesty summer flavours?

Available this week: English Cox apples – still firm but tasting fantastic; plenty of plums – English Victorias and damsons, and French greengages in now. Caulis, cabbages and broccoli are plentiful (none of the shortages and silly prices of a few weeks ago). And we have the first of this season’s squash – plenty more of those to come so time to think of what you’re going to carve for Halloween this year?

And, at last, some new season main crop spuds are filtering through – time for some perfect, crunchy golden roasties!

There’s plenty of seasonal inspiration online – how about these for starters?
