You may well have seen the delicious Tipple Tails cakes in Sweet Fink – both individual cupcakes and larger cakes in specially designed tins. They are made in Sheffield by passionate baker Jane Stammers and come in 4 fabulous flavours: Coco Bazaar, Ginger Tingle, Cherry Orchard and Cinnamon Pippin. We caught up with Jane recently to find out what she’s been up to…
1. We hear you’ve been to Paris! Do tell us a bit about your adventure.
I went to Paris last month to do a two day tasting at Galeries Lafayette! My little Fruit cakes were sold in a pop-up of Great British Food. They were being sold opposite Pierre Hermes macarons as well as lots of other gourmet foods. The French seemed to really enjoy them – I sold half the stock for the whole month in two days!
2. Do you have any new products or flavours coming out soon?
I do have some new products in the pipeline and will be collaborating with other Yorkshire producers again, but can’t say yet – still top secret 😉
3. Do you ever get a chance to sit down and eat your own cake? What would you drink/eat with it and which is your favourite flavour?
I don’t often get a chance to eat my fruit cakes but when I do, I love to pair them with different cheeses, and have paired them with my tea and other drinks.
The Cherry Orchard Fruit Cake is delicious with a piece of blue cheese and great with a velvety red wine; Ginger Tingle and Cinnamon Pippin are very good with Richard III Wensleydale, and Coco Bazaar is delicious with a glass of fizz, or an Elderflower Bellini (Elderflower Presse if you are not drinking) it is also gorgeous with Birdhouse Tea’s ‘Yorkshire Rose’ and of course they are all a great partner for a cup of tea or coffee.
4. What or where is your favourite part of Yorkshire?
I like all sorts of different places in Yorkshire – York and Beverly as towns; Staithes and Robin Hoods Bay for seaside and I love the Yorkshire Dales, particularly the Bolton Abbey/Appletreewick area.
